Package status: the website and Chrome Web Store update on separate timelines. The Store may continue serving its previous approved build while a newer package is under review or waiting to be published.

The public Chrome Web Store listing provides the normal install and automatic-update path; unpacked installs remain a development workflow.

Ad handling reaches players built at runtime

  • Optional ad handling now also applies inside players that build their own document at runtime and mount it in a generated frame. Previously those players were out of reach, so the setting appeared to do nothing on the sites that rely on them.
  • Ad handling remains opt-in and continues to apply only while a watch party is active on that tab; leaving the room restores the page exactly as it was.
  • This release changes where existing ad handling can run; it adds no permission and no data-processing category.

Responsive side panel and compact-window reliability

  • The first-use disclosure now keeps its acceptance control reachable on narrow or short side panels while the detailed notice scrolls independently.
  • Sign-in, lobby, chat, room and profile views keep their actions reachable at compact panel sizes and when content grows.
  • Long display names, room codes, status text, player labels, replies, announcements and settings stay contained instead of widening or clipping the panel.
  • Member, mention and reaction details stay inside the viewport and use their own scroll area when the list is long.
  • Copy failures now show a short, actionable message without exposing a long invite URL in the interface; a local clipboard fallback improves compatibility with restricted browser profiles.
  • This release changes side-panel presentation and resilience only; it adds no permission or data-processing category.

One-time site access, automatic player discovery and production hardening

  • On sites without a dedicated integration, creating or joining a room can ask once for optional access to all sites. If accepted, Chrome keeps the grant until the user removes it, and Telepathy starts automatically on ordinary web pages and permitted embedded frames.
  • Player discovery runs automatically after the room starts. Re-detect player is a fallback for late-loading, replaced or unusually embedded players — not a required step on every site.
  • YouTube and Netflix keep dedicated integrations and do not require the optional all-sites grant for their normal player path.
  • Invite links require explicit confirmation in the Telepathy panel before joining a room.
  • Optional ad controls remain limited to the current active watch-party tab.
  • Improved installation abuse protection, opt-in approximate-location handling and documented retention/account-deletion behavior.
  • The room roster can show a recent backend round-trip-time estimate for current members. The value is live connection context, not durable profile data.
  • Rejoining a room no longer changes the original host or creates false member activity.
  • Strengthened and unified administrative sign-in protections across production services.
  • Corrected an ad-filter scoping issue that could block more requests than intended.
  • Public support, troubleshooting, security and test-methodology pages now separate implemented behavior from conditional compatibility and deployment responsibilities.

Room-scoped, opt-in ad controls

  • Ad skipping remains off by default and is activated only for an active watch-party tab after the user enables it.
  • Chrome permissions use active-tab and optional site access for non-native sites; YouTube and Netflix retain dedicated integrations.
  • Removed an obsolete page-integration path that could interfere with site scripts.

Reliability, durability & a calmer first run

  • Improved data durability. Accounts, safety controls and bounded operational history now use durable storage. Real-time rooms remain temporary.
  • Improved service recovery. Routing and health monitoring were strengthened, although participants may occasionally need to rejoin or recreate a room after a service interruption.
  • "It's just you in here" prompt. When you're alone in a room, the chat now shows your code with a one-tap copy, so you always know when you're waiting for a friend.
  • Ad-skip is now opt-in. Automatically clicking a video's “Skip ad” button is off by default — enable it in the panel settings if you want it.
  • Operator console fixes. Improved sign-in and bounded moderation-history handling; related data processing is documented in the privacy policy.
  • Real-browser test suite. The repository includes browser-driven watch-together checks. Passing them covers the documented scenarios, not every streaming site or production network.

Durable data foundation

  • Improved durable storage and operational monitoring.
  • Added backup and recovery-verification tooling; operators must still monitor it and keep protected copies in a separate fault domain.
  • Playback actions (play / pause / seek) and usage stats are now recorded to durable history.

  • Public production stack on telepathy.video with automatic HTTPS.
  • The extension connects to the public backend over HTTPS/WSS by default; local network policy or service availability can still block it.

Accounts, moderation & privacy

  • Sign in, register, or continue as a guest — with sessions that keep you signed in.
  • Published a privacy policy; the production operator must supply its legal identity and obtain jurisdiction-specific review.
  • Added moderation and abuse-response tooling; related data processing is documented in the privacy policy.
  • Added bounded moderation-history support in the operator console.

Brand, design system & the marketing site

  • A crisp, pixel-aligned icon and a cohesive UI design system across the panel and admin.
  • The first Telepathy landing page.

Telepathy v2 — the watch-together core

  • Rebuilt as a Chrome side-panel app that lives next to the video.
  • Synchronized play / pause / seek, live chat, and unlisted rooms whose code is the join credential.
  • Added geometry-based HTML5 player detection alongside dedicated site adapters. Compatibility still varies with player, embed, DRM and site changes.
